  • Bethany Beach: closest beach to the house is about 4/10th of a mile, or three blocks -- cross Route 1 at Jefferson Bridge Rd., then turn left on Pennsylvania Ave., and then right on Cedarwood -- click on the link for  a map --  beach.

  • Delaware Seashore State Park: six  miles of ocean and bay shoreline, north between Bethany and Dewey Beach -- 2825 acres -- swimming, sunbathing, surfing, fishing and boating -- fishing charters -- also has picnic pavilions -- www.destateparks.com/dssp/dssp.asp.

  • Fenwick Island State Park: three mile stretch of beach south of town between Bethany and Fenwick Island -- swimming, surfing, sunbathing and fishing -- bath house and changing rooms -- www.destateparks.com/fenwick/fisp.asp.

 

  • Holts Landing State Park: inland, off of Route 26 -- 203 acre park bordering on the Indian River Inlet -- contains bay shore beach, grassy fields and hardwood forests -- 1.7 mile nature trail -- picnic tables, grills and a horseshoe pit -- only pier in the area built specifically for crabbing -- www.destateparks.com/holts/hlsp.htm.

  • Cape Henlopen State Park: In Lewes, DE -- large park with extensive beaches, two lifeguard protected for swimming during the season -- bath house, concession, changing rooms -- Great Dune Overlook -- WWII observation towers -- many other hiking and biking activities -- Seaside Interpretive Trail -- map --  www.destateparks.com/chsp/chsp.htm.
